Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. It keeps the viewer interested at every second. There are many open questions, tons of action, and tons of excellent camera shots. Scenes easily flow from one to the other.
The story is simple, yet interesting. There is a clear sense of right and wrong. The audience loves to root for the main character because of her undying nature. Yet, in this first film, we know nothing about her other than her family was killed at her wedding. For the rest of the story, she works hard to avenge her loved-ones death.
In addition, there are many, many awesome camera shots. The scenes are beautifully filmed with interesting angles and bright, solid colors. My favorite scene shows O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) moving at the same pace as the softly falling snow; the white snow and her white outfit stand in stark contrast to the dark sky. Also, a unique segment of anime tells a bloody story of O-Ren Ishii's past. Although it might seem out of place in other films, this segment fits perfectly into the story, tying asian culture into the past and present.
Finally, the acting is superb. Uma Thurman performs stunningly. She's tough and brutal, but still captures the warm heart of the character. Lucy Liu also gives a good performance, continuing in the kick-butt tradition of Charlie's Angels.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 captures a strange reality that keeps the viewer wanting more. I give this movie 4 potatoes.
